The Gerda Lissner Foundation holds an Annual International Vocal Competition that is open to men and women 21 to 35 years old, regardless of nationality. A special Wagnerian Division exists within the competition, with an age range of 30-40 years old.


The Gerda Lissner Foundation International Vocal Competitions is held yearly in New York City.


The dates and location for the 2014 competition will be announced shortly.


The competition is divided into two parts:

* The General Competition [Open to singers ages 21 - 35]

* The Wagner Competition [Open to singers ages 30 - 40]


There is no language requirement for the General Competition. The competition within the Wagnerian Division must be in German.


The competition is for singers who are pursuing a professional career in Opera, and are judged by a panel comprised of prestigious professionals in the music world.


Winners in the competition are granted awards ranging from $2,000 to $15,000, based upon placement in the competition.


A total of $ 150,000 will be awarded in prizes.

Top Prize, First Prize and Second Prize winners of The Gerda Lissner Foundation International Vocal Competition cannot reapply. Third Prize and Encouragement Award winners may reapply for future competitions. Winners will also be invited to perform in the Foundation’s annual Winner’s Concert on April 28th, 2013 at 3PM at Carnegie Hall’s Zankel Recital Hall.

If selected, applicants will be notified in early March 2012 by e-mail or phone of their invitation to participate in the competition. The Foundation will provide an accompanist for all participants, free of charge.
